Jazz/New Age Album: Ride the Soundtrack. Music from the Tour De France by John Tesh

Here's a true classic album which is also rare. If you've watched the early CBS sports presentations of the Tour De France from around the early 1980's you'll recognize the music that's on this album. This album was produced by John Tesh who is a cyclist himself.

Very powerful, yet subtle pieces of music. To us, this was by far some of John Tesh's finest material. Not as mainstream as his "Live at Red Rocks" material, but definitely unique, especially to cycling. This was only available in tape at the time and if you can find it or if you already own it, you are a lucky person. No cheese here.

Jazz/New-Age Album: Tour De France by John Tesh

Another John Tesh album, produced a year later and used during the 1988 Tour de France. Some of the songs are the same from the last album, but updated, more mainstream and more upbeat. You can still find this album on CD, but it was also available on tape. Again no cheese here.

Jazz/New-Age Album: Chameleon Days by Yanni

Well after much effort, we finally found a little cheese for you in the form of Yanni's Chameleon Days album. Don't get us wrong, we love this album. They even used a few of the songs from this album as background music for the Tour De Trump back in the late 1980's, which is why it's here in the first place. It's very motivational and upbeat. But Yanni's signature instrument, the synthesized harmonica, is somewhat annoying to us, thus making it a little cheesy. But that's just our opinion.

So if you can put up with the synthesized harmonica, it's a great album that can still be found on CD. _________________________________________________________________

Jazz/New-Age Album: Serious Leisure by Sam Cardon

Of course what caught our eye was the impression of the cyclist on the cover of this tape. But once we listened to it, with it's upbeat tempo and balanced blend of instruments, it was a winner. Don't know if it's still available, but if you can find it and if you like upbeat jazz/new-age, this is a great album.

80's Rock/Soundtrack Album: Rad, Movie Soundtrack by Various Artists

If you've checked out the Videos and Movies section, you'll recall the movie "Rad" that we briefly described. Aside from the obvious 1980's cheese that it overflows with, the soundtrack from this movie was exceptional. For the most part very 80's and very upbeat rock and roll by many famous artists of the time. Songs like "Send Me An Angel" and "Music That You Can Dance To" to name a few actually could be heard on the radio back then. Again, just like the movie, good luck trying to find this oldie but goodie. If you do find it, it will probably be on tape. Time to dust off the Walkman.

70's & 80's Classic Rock Album: Queen Greatest Hits Volume I, II & III

Now we know what you're thinking: They added Queen probably because of "We Will Rock You" or "We Are The Champions" right? Maybe it was for "Another One Bites The Dust?!? Well, yes, you're partly right, but we mainly added it for their hit "Bicycle Race." And what a great song it was. We would've added the original cover, but it was a little too racy for this family site, so you'll have to go find it on your own. Great song though! _________________________________________________________________

Easy Listening/Lounge: Engelbert Humperdinck

Here's a real classic from back in the late 60's, maybe early 70's. Engelbert Humperdinck, the lounge singers, lounge singer, who had many classics like "Release Me" and "Spanish Eyes." Of course who can forget the finger snappin' "Quando, Quando, Quando?"

So what does Mr. Humperdinck have to do with bicycles? Good question and here's our answer: In both of these albums shown is a very easy listening, very French-like, song about riding bicycles called "Les Bicyclettes De Belsize." So it's only proper that we here at Get-Into-Cycling.com give a "shout out" to Mr. Humperdinck for this very cool song that evokes memories of early cycling (and romance, of course) in France (not that we were around then, but we've seen lots of old movies).

Check out this great song here from YouTube. Enjoy!
